Nursing home set for expansion to meet growing demand

Bloomfields Nursing Home is set to complete a £650,000 extension to its 30 bed estate, providing a boost for the private healthcare sector in Belfast.

The privately owned nursing home was established in 1991 by husband and wife Des and Jean McLaughlin and provides specialised care for the elderly particularly those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s with around 40 staff.

The expansion, part funded by Danske Bank, will see an additional six bedrooms added to the property, along with the conversion of seven existing rooms to ensuite. Work is due to be completed late next month.

“There is a demand in the local area for elderly support and this expansion will help cater for that,” said Des McLaughlin.

“Building work is currently ongoing, with completion due in the next four to six weeks.

“The additional six bedrooms will increase our patient capacity which will mean we can take on further staff.

Austin Coll, business manager at Danske Bank said: “With seven nursing homes set to close, two of them in east Belfast, this is a welcome boost to the private healthcare sector.

“We are proud to support this expansion which will help facilitate the demand for much needed support in the local community.”
