'Play a hugely significant role': Belfast man and former PwC boss appointed new Kinecx Energy chairman
Paul Terrington CBE succeeds Dr David Dobbin, bringing more than 25 years’ experience in financial and professional services to the role
Northern Ireland gas firm Kinecx Energy has appointed prominent business leader Paul Terrington CBE as its new chairman, succeeding Dr David Dobbin in the role.

Paul will support the company as it develops Northern Ireland’s energy infrastructure and contributes to the transition to a low-carbon future, while ensuring customers have access to reliable and affordable energy.
He brings extensive leadership and governance experience to Kinecx Energy, the new name for the former firmus energy networks business following the sale of the separate firmus energy Supply Ltd business in 2024.
A partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for more than 20 years, he led the firm in Northern Ireland for a decade and served on the PwC UK Board for seven years. During that time, he was head of UK regions before going on to lead its consulting business across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Paul said: “I am delighted to take on the role of chairman of Kinecx Energy at such an important time for the business. The company has an established track record and continues to play a hugely significant role in Northern Ireland’s energy infrastructure.
“I look forward to building on the progress that has already been made, working with the Board and wider team, and supporting the company’s exciting ambitions for the future.”
Kinecx Energy chief executive Niall Martindale paid tribute to Dr Dobbin, recognising his significant contribution to the company and his leadership since 2020.
During his tenure, Dr Dobbin helped steer the firm through a period of considerable transformation in the energy sector.
“On behalf of everyone at Kinecx Energy, I would like to thank David for his outstanding contribution and commitment to the business,” said Niall.
“His leadership has been invaluable, particularly during a period of considerable change for the company. We are all grateful for his guidance and the strong foundations he has helped establish.”
He continued: “Equally, we’re delighted to welcome Paul as our new chairman. His extensive business experience, strong understanding of the local economy and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue to develop our network and deliver on our strategic priorities. Everyone in the company looks forward to working closely with him.”
Paul will attend Kinecx Energy’s Stakeholder Briefing at Galgorm on November 12, where he will meet key stakeholders and outline his priorities for the role.
He added: “As the energy landscape continues to evolve, Kinecx Energy has an important role to play in supporting local energy needs. I look forward to engaging with our stakeholders, understanding their priorities and working with the team to navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead.”
Kinecx Energy’s network extends to more than 2,400km of mains, passing 200,000 homes and businesses from Derry-Londonderry in the north-west to Newry in the south-east.
It currently delivers natural gas to 75,000 connected customers.
