Held virtually earlier this month, Retail and Leisure International’s Global RLI Awards celebrated the most visionary and innovative retail and leisure concepts across the world.

With strong competition from luxury brands including Harrods, Equinox and the Belmond Cadogan Hotel in Chelsea, Portview proved it can compete at the highest level in the industry by winning the Interior Excellence category in recognition of Samsung KX.

The award is the latest in a long line of industry accolades received by Belfast-based Portview within the last 12 months and highlights the consistently high standards achieved by the company.

Highlighting the need to ‘think outside the box’ Managing Director of Portview, Simon Campbell said: “We pride ourselves in delivering world-class projects by thinking outside the box and forming strong symbiotic relationships with clients who are equally passionate about quality and pushing the boundaries

“This Global RLI award is a great testament to the teamwork and hard work that went into creating Samsung KX, which undoubtedly is one of our most iconic and imaginative projects to date.”

Located within the famous ‘kissing point’ of the Coal Drops Yard development, designed by Thomas Heatherwick; Samsung KX is a new 20,000 sq ft showcase that boasts several bespoke designs that are one-of-a-kind.

Some of the amazing features include an architectural lighting frame embedded within the sales floor to create a curved, illuminated arc in both the east and west ceilings and a prominent crystal acrylic installation from Korean designer, Saerom Yoon, representing the brand’s heritage in Seoul.

The ‘Blue Pillar’ design purposefully replicates a watercolour painting through the use of carefully selected gradient tones and natural textures to provide a light ambience within the space.

The new showcase boasts ample natural light and stunning views overlooking the Coal Drops Yard with floor to ceiling glazing that spans the entire façade.

Inside, the space is carefully detailed with premium finishes such as porcelain flooring, a custom engineered steel roof, solid oak furniture and aluminium mosaic tiles.

Praising the team’s hardwork and dedication throughout project, Simon Campbell continued: “Samsung KX has definitely been a career highlight for many of us in Portview.

“Every detail has been carefully crafted by our team to exude a real sense of innovation and discovery with high quality finishes, fine joinery, contemporary furniture, and bespoke feature lighting.

“Not only is it a one-of-a-kind project, but it’s an entirely unique space that has never been seen before in retail, or anywhere in the world for that matter. That is something we’re very proud of.”

Established in 1975, Portview has built a strong reputation in the fit-out industry as the ‘go-to contractor’ for the world’s top brands, with clients including Tiffany & Co., Wimbledon, Christian Louboutin, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal F.C. and Harvey Nichols.

Following a mix of work across the high-end residential, hotel, office, restaurant, retail and stadia sectors last year, the business reported a turnover of £49.4m in recently filed accounts.

Despite the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the local economy, Portview remains positive about the future with a healthy orderbook already lined up for 2021, including a multimillion pound project that is the company’s largest contract on record.
