News broke on Wednesday evening that the government in the Republic of Ireland is planning to allow hairdressers and barbers to reopen to the public on June 29 - a full three weeks ahead of schedule.

It's unclear when hairdressers and barbers in Northern Ireland will be permitted to reopen.

If no date is confirmed within the next few weeks you could potentially get a haircut in Cork but not Coleraine or anywhere in Northern Ireland for that matter.

The measures due to be announced in the Republic of Ireland would see staff in these establishments armed with significant levels of personal protection equipment (PPE).

The Irish Hairdressers Association (IHA) announced a raft of measures businesses would be expected to adopt if they are to make their premises COVID-ready.

Suggestions include the doing away with shared reading material, the cleaning of equipment, furniture and work stations after each use.
