Pub owner with 3,500 unsold pints

One of the North Coast’s oldest and most iconic pubs is sending back more than 40 kegs (3,500 pints) to the brewery as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown because it will not be fit for consumption when businesses reopen.

Like pubs all over Northern Ireland, The Queens Arms in Coleraine has been closed ever since the Northern Ireland Executive ordered businesses to close their doors as part of a nationwide lockdown designed to slow the spread of coronavirus.

First opened in the late 1700s, the legendary town centre bar is a part of life for so many in the area and a popular stop-off for tourists and visitors from all around the world.

It is the only town-centre bar in Coleraine.

Publican Terence O’Neil explained: “We have over 40 kegs of beer unused since lockdown began, which is more than 3500 pints which are now ready to be poured down the drain. We are a busy town centre bar and one of the oldest in Coleraine.

“Of course, we are looking forward to getting back to business however things will be different. Customers will still have the same warm welcome to our pub but like every other business, we will have to introduce social distancing measures. “

The Queens Arms is known for its daily witty sayings and inspirational quotes which are chalked on an A-Board outside the premises.
