The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, Councillor Audrey Wales MBE, is encouraging everyone to take part in the event, on Saturday 20 August 1pm-4pm.

“We are hoping to reach as many of our green fingered communities and citizens as possible by including a wide range of classes and creative competitions,” she said.

“We are encouraging both ‘experts’ and ‘novices’ to take part in the various categories, but advise that the deadline for entries is Thursday 18 August at 4pm.

“This includes the popular children’s section of the flower show which encourages youngsters up to 15-years-old to showcase their budding talent.”

The schedule is available on council’s website and at various council venues. It outlines all the classes within the flower show along with details of the associated rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, the Summer Fair itself promises to be full of music, entertainment, food demonstrations, craft and food stalls.

“It is a day to keep the whole family entertained and of course, keep the devoted gardener happy,” Councillor Wales said.

“A number of crafts people will be demonstrating, leather work, sculpture, ceramics, felting and spinning, while the artists of Campart will be encouraging children to get creative too and the NI Survival School will be giving tips on how to live in the wild, and there is a chance to meet some cuddly characters at Phil’s Mobile Farm too,” she said.

“We welcome all entries whatever your skill levels. Please encourage neighbours, family and friends to have a go.

“If you have never participated in a flower show before why not take this opportunity to be part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s fantastic Flower Show?” Councillor Wales concluded.

The Flower Show prize giving will take place at 3.30pm with BBC Radio Ulster Gardener’s Corner presenter, Cherrie McIlwaine helping to award the prizes.

Members of the public are advised that there is no parking available within the Market Yard and to make use of town centre car parks. However, a special vintage bus will run regularly every half hour throughout the event to take visitors into the town centre – perhaps for some ‘retail therapy’. The bus will pick up on Larne’s Main Street and drop off at Station Road.
