Teemore backing for dairy sale

Taaffe Auctions has confirmed a bumper entry for its monthly Dairy Sale in Dungannon Farmers' Mart.

The catalogue for next Thursday’s show and sale (March 23) features an entry of 130 fresh calved heifers and cows, 26 heifer calves, and one Swedish Red bull.

Sponsored by Teemore Engineering the pre-sale show commences at 10.30am, and will be judged by Simon Haffey from the noted Glasson Herd based in Portadown. The sale will get underway at the earlier time of 11.30am.

Entries have been received from many of the Province’s leading pedigree Holstein herds, including: Abercorn, Ards, Bannwater, Burnhill, Drumeil, Hilltara, Inch, Killane, Kilvergan, Moree, Newry, Prehen, Therealmccoy, Relough and Ringclare.

The heifers and cows on offer are daughters of top AI sires including Mogul, Morgan, Defender, Camaro, La-Bron, Erdman, Iota, Shamrock, Galaxy, Control, Ladd P, MVP, Meridian and Ponder.

This month’s catalogue includes a draft of eight calved heifers and cows, and 26 heifer calves from Jim Stevenson’s noted Newry Herd based at Kilkeel.

Jim Stevenson’s heifer calves will be auctioned at 11.30am. The calves were born between August and December 2016, and are daughters of top AI bulls such as Battlecry, Superstyle, Mr Grey, Fantasmic and Morningview Aftershock. They are bred from many of the herd’s top cow families, and include an early September born Cogent Superstyle heifer calf out of the third generation EX classified Newry Gold Barbie EX93 2E who produced 14,779kgs at 4.38% fat and 3.14% protein in her third lactation.

Holstein enthusiasts will also have a chance to buy three frozen embryos from Newry Gold Barbie EX93 2E. They come from a mixed flush to Seagull Bay Silver and Cogent Superstyle.

Rounding off the monthly dairy auction are 14 freshly calved heifers and cows from John Mooney’s ongoing dispersal; and 30 fresh calved and springing cows from the final part of Edmund Smith’s dispersal.
