Tourism & hospitality runs in the family for Amanda & Tyler!

For the mother and son duo, Amanda and Tyler Neary, working at the luxury Lough Erne Resort has become a natural extension of family life while adding another layer to their bond.
Having amassed a strong portfolio of experience in customer service roles, Amanda was inspired by Tyler to pursue a career in the tourism and hospitality sector three years ago.
She said: “Tyler started in tourism and hospitality before he could drive, so I was bringing him in and out to work,”
“There was something about the Lough Erne Resort which just really drew me in. Once you come over the bridge into the resort, it feels as if you're a million miles away and a world apart. It felt like somewhere I thought I really want to work and be part of a team helping to put a smile on the faces of others.”

That sense of place is something Amanda now shares with guests every day. Working in the front office team, she thrives on the interaction that comes with check-ins and check-outs.
She said: “I thoroughly enjoy dealing with our guests on a regular basis and building a rapport with them.
“I love everything about County Fermanagh and the surrounding regions and I love nothing more than sharing that with guests and advising them on places to visit.”
For Amanda, tourism and hospitality is about more than service; it’s about connection and making memories. “No two days are the same and each guest brings a new experience.

“There is a great sense of satisfaction when you make a connection with them and provide that little bit of service that really makes their trip memorable.”
Tyler’s journey highlights the breadth of opportunity within the sector.
He began working in golf at the resort four years ago, developing hands-on experience in bookings, events and day-to-day operations.
He is also currently studying for a Foundation Degree in Hospitality and Travel Tourism at South West College. Complementing his practical experience, this course has even taken him overseas for a three-week placement at The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba.
Now part of the concierge team, dividing his shifts with the golf department, Tyler has embraced the variety a career in the tourism and hospitality sector offers.
He said: “The role has been extremely beneficial, allowing me to further develop my communication skills, local knowledge, and ability to deliver personalised guest experiences.
“Working in golf involves a lot more than people might expect. My role includes welcoming members and guests, managing bookings, assisting with events and tournaments, and providing overall customer service throughout the day.
“It requires good organisation, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm during busy competitions or peak seasons.”
For both Amanda and Tyler, teamwork is central to their experience. Amanda describes the front office as “so close knit” and sociable, noting how “it almost feels like they are a part of your family”.
Tyler added: “It’s so important to have a good team around you.
“I was made to feel so welcome and a valued member of the team straight away.”
Working together has added another layer of meaning.
Amanda said: “It’s not just about sharing a workplace; it’s about sharing daily experiences, supporting each other, and celebrating achievements together.
The flexibility of the industry is another benefit. Shift patterns can offer balance, making it easier to manage family life or study commitments. Along with so many opportunities for career progression and the ability to move across departments, tourism and hospitality offers long-term career potential.
“It's an absolutely wonderful industry to be involved in,” says Amanda. “It's so fulfilling being able to help guests, ensuring they have a great guest experience.”
Meanwhile, Tyler’s advice is simple: “Always come in with a smile on your face. There’s never a dull moment.”
