Ulster Grassland Society is all set for Omagh visit

It's all system's go for the Ulster Grassland Society's visit to the Cunningham family at Crevenagh Road, Omagh.

This leased farm has a herd of New Zealand Friesian x Jersey dairy cows with a compact spring calving system.

Farm manager Cahal McAleer told the UGS: “The herd had been out grazing full-time in early April but the continued wet weather meant we had to house the cows full time for a short period.

“The better conditions this past week has helped get things back on track - it has certainly been a challenging spring!”

The importance of soil fertility will be a feature at the farm walk on Wednesday 27th April as there is a fertiliser and liming programme to improve productivity. Sub soiling and spiking have also been carried out to improve drainage and aeration.

The farm walk will be located at 155 Crevenagh Road, Omagh, BT70 0HB, which is 4.5 miles from Omagh, off the Ballygawley Road.

A barbeque meal will be available after the walk at a cost of £15 to non UGS members.
