Vintage extravaganza and fete

Due to the increasing popularity of the Loanends Vintage Tractor and Classic Car Road Run, organisers have announced that stationary displays and motorbikes will also feature at its 7th annual event on Saturday 4th June.

Generously sponsored by McKinstry Skip Hire Ltd based at Nutt’s Corner, and NFU Mutual in Crumlin, the vintage extravaganza will take place in conjunction with a summer fete at Loanends Presbyterian Church situated on the Seven Mile Straight near Antrim.

The vintage tractors will assemble at the church car park at noon. Departing at 1.00pm, the tractor cavalcade will drive around country roads in the Templepatrick, Lylehill and Ballymather area, stopping off at a large dairy unit.

The classic cars and vintage motorbikes will meet at the assembly point at 12.30pm. Cars will depart at 1.15pm and take a scenic route around the countryside including the Horse Shoe Bend, Hightown and Templepatrick.

The motorbikes will set off at 1.30pm, and cover the Old Clady Circuit – venue for the first Ulster Grand Prix in 1922 which started at the old Loanends School.

The entry fee is £10 per vehicle or motorbike, which includes lunch for the driver.

Robert Wallace said: “Everyone is welcome, and entries will be accepted on the day. The event is now in its seventh year, and we are looking forward to another successful and enjoyable day.

“The vintage road run will coincide with a summer fete to celebrate the 90th birthday of HRH Queen Elizabeth II. There will be various stalls selling home produce, crafts, plants and refreshments. The event has been organised in aid of church funds, and boasts a variety of entertainment for all the family, including Irish Dancing, live music, and a model aircraft display.” Robert Wallace added: “We are also hosting a pet show at 2.00pm, and are urging the younger visitors to bring their pets along. Entry is free and there are a host of prizes to be won.”
