'We are honoured to be delivering this new private healthcare facility': Northern Ireland construction firm starts work on new multi-million medical clinic
The new purpose-built 100,000 sq ft Boucher Road facility, being constructed by Heron Bros, will complement Affidea’s four existing clinics in Northern Ireland and its wider network of 24 facilities across the Republic of Ireland
An advanced diagnostics and out-of-hospital services provider has begun construction on a new 100,000 sq ft clinic in Belfast.

Affidea, a European provider of community-based clinics, advanced diagnostics and specialist care services, confirmed work is now under way on the purpose-built facility.
The development represents a significant investment in Northern Ireland’s healthcare infrastructure and is expected to expand access to integrated, patient-centred medical services for people across Belfast and surrounding areas.

Strategically located on Boucher Road, the clinic is designed to improve convenience and reduce travel times for patients seeking specialist diagnostics and treatment.
Once complete, the facility will offer a comprehensive range of services including advanced diagnostic imaging, specialist consultations, in-patient surgery and outpatient procedures. By bringing these services together under one roof, the clinic aims to support patients throughout their care pathway — from early diagnosis through to treatment and ongoing monitoring.
The centre will be equipped with advanced medical technology and designed to provide a modern clinical environment focused on patient comfort and clinical standards.

Further details on timelines and service availability are expected as construction progresses.
Barry Downes, CEO for Affidea UK & Ireland, said: “This marks an important milestone for Affidea and for healthcare provision in Northern Ireland. Our new clinic on Boucher Road reflects our long-term commitment to investing in local communities and delivering timely access to high-quality care. We are proud to bring this significant development to Belfast and look forward to supporting patients and their families with expanded services closer to home for many years to come.”
Karl McKillop, managing director of Heron Bros, the contractor for the site, explained: “We are honoured to be delivering this new private healthcare facility on behalf of Affidea, creating a world class modern environment where patients, staff, and the wider community will benefit for generations to come.
"Through close partnership with our client, design team, and stakeholders, we are committed to delivering a highly serviced, technologically advanced facility in Belfast that reflects the very best in modern healthcare construction.”
Affidea has worked closely with planning authorities and key stakeholders to ensure the design and development of the clinic align with the needs of the growing population and the evolving healthcare landscape in Northern Ireland. The construction phase will generate a range of employment opportunities, supporting local contractors and suppliers. Upon completion, the clinic is expected to create a substantial number of clinical and non-clinical roles, contributing to the local economy.
Affidea already operates four facilities in Northern Ireland, two in Hillsborough, one on Malone Road in Belfast and one in Omagh.
These facilities provide imaging and specialist services to patients across the region, forming a strong foundation for the company’s continued expansion.
Affidea also sees and treats public and private patients across is network of 24 facilities across the Republic of Ireland including several minor injury units. Through these centres, the group delivers a wide range of community-based healthcare services, from advanced diagnostics to specialist consultations and targeted treatments, supporting patients with timely access to high-quality care close to home.
