'We believe this collaboration will bring great strength to our next phase': Family-run Northern Ireland hotel enters 'new chapter' with management shake-up and global chain partnership

‘For our guests, it is very much business as usual’: The Thom family will retain ownership of the 1972 hotel while introducing a new management model and partnering with Eight Continents Hotels & Resorts to support future growth

A historic Northern Ireland hotel has announced a ‘new chapter’ for the business, with its owners introducing a revised management structure and a new partnership to support future growth.

The Thom family confirmed the The Royal Hotel Cookstown, which was established in 1972, will remain under family ownership, with its heritage and long-standing values continuing to underpin operations.

However as part of its future plans, the business is transitioning to a new management model designed to strengthen day-to-day operations and enhance the overall guest experience.

The family also revealed a new collaboration with Eight Continents Hotels & Resorts, an international operator known for its experience-led approach and operational expertise.

In an ‘important update’ social media post, the Thom family explained: “We are delighted to share an exciting new chapter for The Royal Hotel Cookstown. The hotel will remain proudly owned by the Thom family, with our heritage, traditions, and values continuing to guide everything we do. “As we look to the future, we are introducing a new management structure designed to strengthen the hotel’s day-to-day operations and further elevate the experience we provide to our guests.

"As part of this journey, we are pleased to be working with Eight Continents Hotels & Resorts, an internationally growing hospitality company recognised for its experience-led approach, operational strength, and commitment to exceptional guest service.

"Partnering with a company whose values so closely reflect our own was incredibly important to us, and we believe this collaboration will bring great strength to the next phase of The Royal Hotel Cookstown.”

Outlining the family’s new role, the post continued: “This new development will enable Dad to step back from the daily management of the hotel, allowing him to focus on his role as a key contributor to the business.

"I, too, will remain engaged, in the wedding and event segments. As many of you know, I have two young children, and with a dedicated management team overseeing the hotel, I'll be able to spend more quality time with my family.”

Despite the operational changes, the family stressed that it will be ‘business as usual’ for guests, with no change to the service, staff or standards the hotel is known for. “For our guests, it is very much business as usual — the same warm welcome, the same familiar faces, and the same high standards you have come to know and trust. “We are sincerely grateful for your continued support and look forward to welcoming you for many more years to come.”
