'We couldn't have done it without our amazing customers': Northern Ireland family-run jeweller celebrates 40 years with new chapter
Coleraine retailer Gems is celebrating four decades on the high street with a one-day sale, while reflecting on its journey from a family business to one of the region's best-known independent jewellers
A north coast jeweller is celebrating 40 years in business by entering a new chapter, with the next generation of the family helping lead the company into its fifth decade.
Gems Jewellers first opened its doors in Coleraine on August 1, 1986, before expanding with a sister store in Ballymoney. Over the past four decades, the family business has built a reputation for quality jewellery, watches and specialist craftsmanship across the north coast and beyond.
As the business marks its 40th anniversary, founder Stuart Leslie is now joined by his daughter, Caitlin, creating a father-and-daughter team that combines decades of experience with fresh ideas for the future.
The milestone also coincides with a programme of investment, including a refreshed brand identity featuring a new logo, the launch of a new website and an extension that will provide a dedicated consultation space for customers seeking engagement rings, bespoke jewellery and remodelling services.
A social media post explained: “For nearly 40 years, Gems has proudly welcomed customers through its doors, providing quality products and trusted service for every occasion
“If you’re celebrating a special moment, preparing for everyday needs, or looking for something unique, Gems is here to offer exactly what you need, with the experience, care, and dedication built over four decades.”

To celebrate, the retailer is holding a special 'Beat the Clock' promotion tomorrow (Saturday), with discounts on selected in-stock diamond jewellery starting at 40% between 10am and 11am before reducing each hour throughout the day. Anniversary competitions and prize giveaways will also run throughout August.
The business traces its roots to Stuart Leslie's passion for jewellery and watchmaking. After leaving school, he turned down a university place to pursue a career in the trade after being inspired by his early experience working alongside respected Coleraine watchmaker and clockmaker Tommy O'Kane at The Abbey Gift Shop.
Professional training in jewellery, watch and clock craftsmanship laid the foundations for what would become Gems Jewellers, with traditional skills, quality workmanship and personal service remaining at the heart of the business over the past four decades.
Announcing the anniversary celebrations on social media, Caitlin thanked customers for their continued support: "We're turning 40! On 1st August, Gems Jewellers celebrates 40 wonderful years in business, and we couldn't have reached this milestone without the support of our amazing customers.

"To say thank you, we're doing something we've never done before...our Beat the Clock event."
She added: "We can't wait to celebrate with you this Saturday. The earlier you arrive, the bigger the savings. Can you beat the clock?"
In April, the business also celebrated long-service staff member Noeleen who has been with the firm for 34 years.
