'We invite you to join us for one last meal before we close': Coleraine community shocked as much-loved restaurant to close after six years
Coleraine bistro bar Coopers cites rising wages, rates and business taxes as it announces final day of trading on February 8.
Another Northern Ireland restaurant has announced it will close next month, citing rising operating costs.
Coopers on Limemarket Street in Coleraine confirmed that its final day of service will be Sunday, February 8, bringing an end to six years of trading in the town.
In a post shared on social media, owner Stephen Henry said the decision had been made with “a heavy heart”, pointing to increased financial pressures on the business.
“Dear valued customer, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Coopers Restaurant, effective Sunday, 8 February.
“After six years serving the local community, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors. Due to increases in wages, rates and business taxes, we will find it hard to continue.”
Mr Henry thanked customers for their support over the years, adding: “We are grateful for your loyalty, friendship and all the memories shared over the countless meals. We invite you to join us for one last meal before we close.”

Customers have also been advised to redeem any outstanding gift cards before the restaurant’s final day of service on 8 February.
“Thank you for being part of our journey,” the post concluded. “Sincerely, Coopers Restaurant.”
In response, hundreds of loyal customers, friends and family shared messages of shock and sadness, alongside words of support and gratitude, thanking the team for years of dedication to the Coleraine community and wishing them every success in the future.
