'We wanted to share an important update with our customers and community': Northern Ireland cinema to 'take its final bow' after years of movie magic
Owners announce doors will close on January 25, ending years of big-screen entertainment in the city but assuring film fans that nearby Omniplex venues will remain open
The owners of a Northern Ireland cinema chain have confirmed that the final credits are set to roll on Omniplex Armagh, bringing an end to decades of big-screen entertainment in the city.

In a post shared on social media, Omniplex Cinemas announced that the four screen Armagh venue will close its doors for the final time this weekend.
“Farewell… but not the end credits,” they reflected. “After many wonderful years of bringing stories to life on the big screen in Armagh, we wanted to share an important update with our customers and community.
“Omniplex Armagh will take its final bow on Sunday, January 25.”
Owners went on to thank those who helped make the cinema a fixture of local life, adding: “We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to every member of our team, past and present, and to everyone who joined us for a movie, a popcorn, or a special night out over the years. It has been a privilege to be part of the Armagh community and to share so many unforgettable cinema moments together.”
The closure marks the end of an era for moviegoers in Armagh, with the venue having hosted countless film premieres, family outings and first cinema experiences for generations of local residents.
However, Omniplex reassured customers that the wider chain will continue to operate across the region.
“While this chapter is coming to a close, the story continues,” the statement added. “Our Omniplex cinemas in Dungannon and Craigavon will continue to operate as normal, and we’d love to welcome you there for the next reel of your big-screen experience with us.”
The post concluded: “Thank you for being part of the Omniplex Armagh story.”
No further details were given on the future of the Armagh site, but the announcement has prompted an outpouring of memories and well-wishes from cinema-goers online, many describing the venue as a cornerstone of social life in the city.
