'You supported us, believed in us, and became part of our family in ways we will never forget': Husband-and-wife duo thank customers and staff as they get ready to close their much-loved Belfast bistro
Emotional tributes pour in as Bistro Este on the Upper Newtownards Road confirms it will close on New Year’s Eve after a decade and a half
Belfast is saying goodbye to a much-loved local favourite as husband-and-wife team David and Sarah announce the closure of their beloved restaurant, Bistro Este, after ‘15 unforgettable years’.

The independent, family-run eatery on the Upper Newtownards Road — known for its warm welcome and unwavering commitment to fresh, locally sourced produce — will serve its final dishes on New Year’s Eve.
In an emotional statement shared on social media, the couple said: “After 15 unforgettable years, Bistro Este will close its doors on New Year’s Eve. From the laughter shared at our tables to every comforting bowl of our beloved Goan Curry, you filled this bistro with warmth, joy, and meaning.”
They continued: “You supported us, believed in us, and became part of our family in ways we will never forget… To our incredible staff — past and present — thank you. Your passion, dedication, and kindness shaped Bistro Este into the place it became. We truly couldn’t have done this without you.”
David and Sarah, who opened the bistro in 2010 with a simple mission to serve honest, freshly prepared food, said they are now ready to turn the page: “As we move on to the next chapter in our lives, we want to thank you for every visit, every celebration, every kind word, and every memory. You made these 15 years more special than we ever imagined.”
They also issued a gentle reminder to customers holding gift vouchers to book soon so they can be welcomed one last time.
The announcement triggered an outpouring of messages online, as customers expressed their shock, gratitude, and heartfelt best wishes for the couple’s future.
For many, Bistro Este wasn’t just a restaurant — it was a community table, a cosy corner of comfort, and a labour of love that will be deeply missed.
