Tributes to 93-year-old killed on road in weekend tragedy
Tributes have been paid to Co Down pensioner Patrick Joseph Brady, who died after a road collision on Saturday.
Known as Patsy, the 93-year-old from the rural Barnmeen area close to Rathfiland, was killed when he was hit with a car while out on foot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday night. The driver of the car that struck him, a silver Toyota Avensis, was not believed to be seriously injured.
Death notices published describe Patsy as the “beloved son of the late Frank and Sarah and loving brother of Hugh”, and “deeply regretted by his sorrowing brother, cousins, neighbours and friends”.
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon alderman Paul Greenfield said his thoughts and prayers are with the Brady family in the wake of Patsy’s tragic passing.
“It is difficult to lose a loved one at any time,” he said, “but in such unexpected circumstances and a few days before Christmas, it is extremely hard.
“I would urge anyone who was in this road late in Saturday night and may have witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist the PSNI investigation, to contact the collision investigation unit on [non-emergency phone number] 101, quoting reference number 1587 20/12/25.”
His feelings were echoed by fellow DUP representative, councillor Ian Wilson, who stated on social media: “Another tragic death on our roads, and especially at Christmas when family and friends get together. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr Brady’s family at this tragic time.”
Campaign group Road Victim Support Northern Ireland-Donegal stated they are “deeply saddened to learn of the death of Patrick Joseph Brady following a collision in Co Down”.
In a statement published on social media, the group said: “Our heartfelt condolences go to Patsy’s family, friends and all who knew him. The shock and grief following such a sudden loss is unimaginable, and no one should have to face it alone. Please know that Road Victim Support Northern Ireland-Donegal is here to offer support in any way we can, both emotionally and practically.
“We also wish to sincerely thank the emergency services who attended and responded with professionalism and compassion during such a difficult incident. Patsy’s loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.”
