Fourteen pigs killed in fire at NI farm

Fourteen pigs have been killed in a fire at a farm in Bellaghy.

A Fire Service spokesman said: “Firefighters were called to a fire at a farm in Bellaghy, Magherafelt on Thursday 1 October at 11.44am.

“At the height of the incident six appliances were in attendance including two appliances from Lisburn Fire Station and one appliance each from, Magherafelt, Maghera, Cookstown and Kilrea Fire Stations.

“Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two jets, two hose reel jets and a short extension ladder to extinguish the fire. Fourteen pigs were sadly killed in the fire and the incident was dealt with by 3.31pm.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental ignition.”
