I like many watched with great interest during the much anticipated Mourne Collection auction from County Down that went went under the hammer.

The large number of lots linked mostly to Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors was sold by H.J. Pugh & Co. auctioneers. It took place over two days, Friday 27th February and Saturday 28th February, 2026 at Hazle Meadows Auction Centre, Ledbury, Herefordshire, England were the complete collection had been moved in readiness for the very special auction from County Down.

One of the largest collections of Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors to recently go on sale it turned up a number of very interesting surprises. Some items achieving record prices as expected, whereas others being sold for well below what had been generally expected market values.

The first day featured a large range of different boxed models, 100 implements, banners and literature.

Day two included Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors from a 1938 Ferguson-Brown Type A to classic Massey Ferguson tractors. 100 implements, Ferguson spares, implements and boxed models.

All prices stated are plus fees and VAT on the fees.

Bargains:

A few of the items I picked out included Ferguson Sherman RDO 20 ridgers going for £150 pounds each, well below what I would expect as they retained original badges and are much sought after. Few were built from 1939 to 1942 when the Ferguson-Sherman arrangement to build implements ended.

A Ferguson and Ford-Ferguson flat belt pulley only £100. And another bargain a Massey Ferguson flat belt pulley for just £20.

Some of the tractors sold were I consider also very cheap as I expected then to sell for much higher prices. I have picked out the following:

1946 Ferguson TE20 s/no 203 £4,800, this was a very cheap tractor when only last week a Ferguson TE20 s/no 74 sold for £12,200. 1946 tractors are highly sought after as only 315 were built during the first year of production. Other early 1947 Ferguson TE20 tractors also achieved similar poor sale prices.

1947 Ferguson TE20 s/no 745 in original condition £3,200.

1947 Ferguson TE20 s/no 913 £4,000.

Ford Model 900 petrol, narrow front tractor. Made in the USA and so rare in the UK, £3,200

Ford 8N Funk 6 cylinder conversion £3,800.

All of these tractors especially the 1946 and 1947 Ferguson TE20 tractors would have cost several times these prices to put into the condition they were sold in. Parts are so hard and expensive to source for the early Continental Z120 engined tractors. I know that from experience in restoring a 1946 Ferguson TE20 at present.

The Ferguson-Brown s/no 949 sold for £24,000, which was well back from a record price set back in July, 2021 when a restored 1938 Ferguson-Brown Type A tractor set a record price of £53,000 at a H. J. Pugh & Co. Auctioneers sale.

Ferguson-Brown flat belt pulley £1,100.

Ferguson-Brown original top link £700.

Ferguson-Brown two furrow plough s/no. 1233 £1,500.

A much in demand Northern Ireland built Ferguson Belfast potato digger s/no 332 sold for £1500.

Ferguson 30cwt trailer £4,100.

Massey Ferguson conventional square baler £5,800.

On the other scale of things, I have selected the following that made very high prices including:

1947 Ferguson TE 20 tractor with Perkins P3 Diesel engine and 4WD conversion £26,000.

1954 Ferguson TEF20 Diesel £15,000.

Ferguson FE-35 Industrial tractor £33,000.

Massey Ferguson 35 industrial £56,000.

1993 Massey Ferguson 390T 4WD tractor. £42,000.

1973 Massey Ferguson 135 4WD tractor. £46,000.

These are I believe all world record prices and show continuing strong demand for some Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors.

The one lot in the sale I was very interested in was the much sought after Ferguson-Brown Spanner as it would be nice to show at my lectures and talks on Harry Ferguson, a tool developed here in County Tyrone during 1935 as the Ferguson System was perfected. Sadly my pocket was not deep enough on the day as it made a new world record of £3,100, around three times the expected price.
