Online option to continue lessons is mooted for pupils of shut down schools

Detailed guidance was issued from the Department of Education this afternoon, which appears to hold out the possibility pupils could continue lessons via computer screens.

The advice says in the event of a closure “the priority is to ensure teaching and learning continue”.

When it comes to how this may work, it says: “The capacity and provision exists via the EA Education Network service to facilitate teaching and learning outside of the classroom environment through digital and online platforms such as C2k, the computer system used by the vast majority of schools.”

Both teachers and pupils “should ensure they check their C2k passwords are working and can log on to My-School from home”.

Whilst the advice said pupils with symptoms should be sent home, it re-stated the government’s stance that there need be no blanket closures.
