Body recovered after search operation launched when man seen entering water - postmortem due to take place

A postmortem is now due to take place after a man’s body was recovered following a search operation at the River Lagan, Ormeau Bridge area of Belfast last night.

Emergency services closed off a section of Ormeau Road and Ormeau Embankment at around 9.20pm last night, after receiving reports of concern for the safety of a man in the river.

A helicopter and search and rescue boats were also deployed to the scene.

But sadly a man’s body was recovered from the water.

A PSNI spokesman said they received a report last night (Wednesday 14th October), shortly after 9.20pm, for the concern for safety of a man in the Ormeau River near the Ormeau Road in Belfast.

He said that PSNI and other emergency services responded but sadly, a man’s body was later recovered from the water.

He added that there are no further details at this time.
