10 people aged 80 or over die in NI after testing positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours

Eleven Covid-19 related deaths were recorded by the Department of Health (DoH) in the last 24 hours.

Ten of the 11 people to pass away were aged 80 or over and one person was aged be 60 and 79.

Eight of the 11 deaths occurred in the last 24 hours and the remaining three deaths were recorded for the first time in the 24 hours to 10.00am on Thursday.

Three of the 11 deaths occurred in residential/care homes and eight occurred in hospitals.

It takes the DoH Covid-19 death-toll to 1,026.

The DoH data also shows an increase in the number of new infections.

The DoH reported 406 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday but that daily increase jumped to 456 new infections on Thursday.

It takes the total number of individuals to test positive for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic to 53,728.

The total number of infections over the last seven days stands at 2,646.
