This annual event will now take place on the last weekend in August subject to Covid restrictions, Antrim and Newtownabbey councillors have been told.

Meanwhile, the borough council has decided to cancel the traditional Ballyclare May Fair for the second consecutive year due to the Covid pandemic.

Following an easing of restrictions, a Big Wheel has been set up at Market Square in Antrim town centre where it will remain until June and will move to Jordanstown Loughshore Park in August.

The Big Wheel has been brought to Antrim as part of the council’s plans to “revitalise” the borough’s town centres.

Commenting at a meeting of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council on Monday evening, Antrim DUP councillor Alderman John Smyth said: “It is good to hear people enjoying themselves.”

The Irish Game Fair and Food Festival remains scheduled for June 26 and 27 at Shane’s Castle, supported by Council funding of £15,000.

However, the Randox Antrim Agricultural Show due to take place at this venue in July has been cancelled this year.

The Antrim Live event which usually takes place in May has been rescheduled to “One Giant Weekend” in September which will also incorporate a Garden Show Ireland promotional “element” and Newtownabbey’s Shoreline Festival at Jordanstown Loughshore Park.
