Social visits

In Northern Ireland, six people from different households can meet-up outside but they must adhere to social distancing of two metres apart - indoor meetings are not yet permitted in Northern Ireland.

In the Republic of Ireland, groups of up to six people from different households can meet-up both outdoors and indoors.

People meeting indoors must adhere to social distancing, must do so in well ventilated rooms and the gatherings should be as short as possible and must not be longer than one hour.

People can travel up to 20km to meet others.

The Irish government also asks people to keep a log of others they come into contact with for the benefit of track and trace.

Funerals

Ten people are permitted to attend funerals in Northern Ireland - no indoor gatherings are permitted.

From Monday June 8, up to 25 people can attend funerals in the Republic of Ireland - up to six people from different households can meet-up inside after the funeral but must adhere to social distancing and the gathering must not last longer than one hour.

Travel

In Northern Ireland people must stay at home but are permitted to do so in limited circumstance such as to obtain food/medical supplies; to take exercise; to care for a vulnerable person and to travel to and from work.

In the Republic of Ireland people can travel to anywhere within their county or 20km - (whichever is the longest distance).

However, you are permitted to travel 20km to visit local venues or amenities such as parks, shops and allotments that have reopened as part of the government’s road map.

Culture, social and sport

In Northern Ireland there are no detailed provisions for how adults and children can play sport in groups.

In the Republic of Ireland groups of up to 15 people who are not from the same household can meet outdoors for organised activities such as sporting or other events.

Activities involving children should involve no more than 12 children to allow for three supervisors to be present to oversee the activity and make sure that public health guidance is being followed.

Education and childcare

In Northern Ireland, playgrounds must remain closed.

In the Republic of Ireland, children’s playgrounds in public parks and other public locations can be reopened under the supervision of Local Authorities.

Social care

In Northern Ireland you must not attempt an indoor visit in a care home.

In the Republic of Ireland, a phased introduction of visiting in nursing homes and residential care facilities in line with social distancing guidelines will start from Monday June 15.
