HSENI says Northern Ireland companies meeting Covid guidelines despite 438 complaints

More than 400 complaints were made against companies in Northern Ireland in a two-month period during lockdown for breaching coronavirus guidelines.

However, the Health and Safety Executive say in the majority of cases compliance was found to be of a high standard.

HSENI said the total number of complaints received between May 5 and July 17 was 438, though more than one complaint was made against some companies.

HSENI said: “Each complaint is investigated on an individual basis. Inspectors will also take note of the number of complaints logged against a company and the common areas of concern raised.

“During this period 374 visits were carried out, of which 372 were unannounced. In the majority of cases, the overall compliance with the PHA Covid-19 guidance was found to be of a high standard. Where issues were identified, appropriate action was taken.

Employers willingly undertook additional action where it was required and it was not necessary to prohibit work at premises.”
