From Wednesday, June 3, the Council will open the tennis courts for public use at Dungannon Park and Mid Ulster Sports Arena, with those at Meadowbank Sports Arena to follow on Saturday, June 6.

To ensure that people can use the tennis courts safely, priority access sessions will need to be booked in advance the day before, with play limited to singles only, or doubles where partners are from the same household. Casual users will be accommodated on a one-out – one-in basis.

All players will be expected to provide contact details when booking and/or using the courts.

Customers will also be asked to use their own racquets and bring along two sets of tennis balls clearly marked for individual use only, and to abide by safety and social distancing regulations moving to and from and whilst on the court. Players will be asked to leave the courts as soon as their games are finished.

Pavilions and changing rooms (including toilets where applicable) will remain closed, so players are advised to arrive match ready, in tennis attire and changed into appropriate footwear either at home or in their car when they arrive.

Ballygawley, Fairhill Cookstown, and Tobermore tennis courts, as well as Moneymore Recreation Centre’s multi-use courts, are to remain closed at this time.

Welcoming the news ,Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan said: “As we focus on the phased reopening of our leisure and outdoor recreation facilities, I’m delighted to see another part of our services resume.

“We are now able once more to facilitate recreational tennis play that will benefit the physical and mental health of residents and let players practice on a number of our tennis courts throughout the district.

“The health and safety of our customers is paramount, so our staff have put industry standard recommended measures in place that will allow the public to use the courts safely and with confidence.

“As with Tobermore Golf Centre, we’re asking users to expect a slightly different experience when they come back and to abide by the rules on and off court for both their own and others safety and enjoyment.”
