NI Covid-19 hospital admissions up 260% in a week - NI sets new record as 1,080 people test positive for Covid-19 in last 24 hours

Northern Ireland has recorded its highest ever number of positive Covid-19 cases in a 24 hour period with 1,080 new infections detected in the last 24 hours.

There were no Covid-19 related deaths recorded.

Before today, the highest number of infections was recorded a week ago on October 2 when 934 people tested positive.

The number of new cases in Northern Ireland has also doubled within seven days.

In the seven days to Friday October 2 2,623 tested positive for Covid-19 but one week on and that figure now stands at 5,272.

The total number of infections recorded in the last seven days equates to 30 per cent of all infections recorded in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

There has also been a 260 per cent increase in hospital admissions - in the seven days to October 2, 40 individuals were admitted to hospital with Covid-19 whereas in the seven days to October 9, 104 individuals were admitted to hospital.

The number of patients in hospitals across Northern Ireland with Covid-19 has more than doubled in the last seven days to 132.

There are currently 16 patients in intensive care units and 10 patients with Covid-19 are currently on ventilators.

There are 15 unoccupied intensive care beds across Northern Ireland - these beds are not exclusively for Covid-19 patients.
