The plan is expected to be similar to the one set out by the Executive in May last year.

However, the forthcoming plan is expected to mirror the pathway to recovery set out for England by Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, at the beginning of this week.

Like Mr. Johnson's plan, the Northern Ireland route to recovery will contain intervals to allow health chiefs to measure the scale of impact the easing of restrictions has on the spread of Covid-19 in the community.

Boris Johnson baked in intervals lasting five weeks between the easing of each set of restrictions.

The length of the intervals that will be part of the Northern Ireland have not yet been confirmed.

Last year, the Executive followed a five step plan to reopen the local economy, education and society.

First Minister Arlene Foster and deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill briefed the public on the status of plan once and sometimes twice a week.

The Executive is due to publish its new recovery plan for Northern Ireland on Monday March 1.

However, Arlene Foster and Michelle O'Neill said it is possible the document will not be published until Tuesday.

“It was our desire to publish a document on Monday and if we can we will,” said the deputy First Minister.

“But if it takes until Tuesday, then so be it, as long as we get it right. I think that is more important.”

The Executive will work towards finalising the plan over the coming weekend.
