The update, which was issued by the FCO at the weekend, applies to the whole of the United Kingdom.

"The FCO advised British people against all non-essential travel worldwide," reads the update on the FCO official website.

"All countries may restrict travel without notice."

The FCO advises anyone with a booking for a holiday to your airline, travel company, cruise line or other transport and accommodation providers.

You should also contact your insurance provider.

The FCO issued advice on March 17 but it was valid for 30 days.

The latest advice applies to an indefinite period of time which means if you have a holiday booked for the near future it more than likely will not go ahead.
