One death of person aged 40-59 in the last 24 hours after they tested positive for Covid-19

The Department of Health (DoH) has confirmed eight additional Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland in the 24 hours to 10.00am on Thursday.

The DoH defines a Covid-19 related death as a death occurring within 28 days of being diagnosed with the virus.

One of those to pass away was aged 40-59; one aged 60-79 and six aged 80 or older.

The deaths occurred in the following local government districts: Belfast (two); Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (one); Antrim and Newtownabbey (three); Lisburn and Castlereagh (one) and Mid and East Antrim (one).

Five of those to sadly die were female and three were male.

Six of these deaths occurred in hospitals and two in residential/care homes.

The deaths take the total DoH Covid-19 death-toll from the beginning of the pandemic to now, to 962.

The DoH also reported 442 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours.

It takes the total number of individuals infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic is now 51,118.

In terms of inpatients with Covid-19 there are 12 fewer individuals with Covid-19 in hospital in Northern Ireland today than yesterday.

However, the number of unoccupied intensive care unit (ICU) beds available in Northern Ireland is 19 which is 11 fewer than yesterday.

There is a total of 114 ICU beds in Northern Ireland; 34 are occupied by Covid-19 patients and 54 are occupied by patients with non-Covid-19 conditions.
