Ten additional Covid related deaths recorded and 412 new infections detected in last 24 hours

The Department of Health (DoH) has recorded 10 additional Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours.

The DoH defines a Covid-19 related death as one that occurs in an individual who has tested positive for the virus within 28 days of their passing.

The most recent data means the DoH’s total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is now 1,899.

Four of the 10 additional deaths occurred within the 24 hours to 10.00am on Thursday and six occurred outside that time but were recorded for the first time.

Four of the people to pass away were aged between 60 and 79 and six were aged 80 or older.

Eight of the deceased were female and two were male.

Half the deaths occurred in a hospital setting and half occurred in a residential/care home setting.

The 10 additional Covid related deaths occurred in the following local council areas: Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (one); Antrim and Newtownabbey (two); Mid and East Antrim (three); Mid Ulster (one); Causeway, Coast and Glens (two) and Newry, Mourne and Down (one).

The DoH also recorded an additional 412 new infections in the last 24 hours.

It means the total number of positive cases in the last seven days and from the beginning of the pandemic is 3,205 and 105,637.

There are currently 671 inpatients with Covid-19 in hospitals in Northern Ireland.

There are 153 intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Northern Ireland - 68 occupied by patients with Covid-19, 48 occupied by patients with non-Covid conditions and 37 are unoccupied.

Northern Ireland hospital bed capacity has increased in recent days from 92 per cent to 95 per cent.
