A team of soldiers based in the Province brought some Easter cheer to the NI Children’s Hospice this weekend, with a donation of over 200 Easter eggs.

The idea was the brainchild of Staff Sergeant Deby Walsh (right), the Commander’s Staff Assistant, who motivated fellow soldiers from 38 (Irish) Brigade at Thiepval Barracks to get involved and donate.

Bolton native Deby said: “Nothing beats the feeling of making a difference to someone else’s life and even the smallest of donations can have a huge impact.

“Individual commitment to this cause has shown what makes ‘Team NI’ and I am so grateful for everyone’s support on this.”

Due to Covid restrictions the eggs could not be given directly to the children, however last Tuesday Deby presented them to NI Children’s Hospice staff, along with a variety of sweet treats and cuddly toys donated from personnel across the NI Garrison.

Brigadier Chris Davies OBE, Commander of 38 (Irish) Brigade, said: “We are delighted to contribute towards the amazing charitable work conducted by the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

“We hope our donation of Easter Eggs enhances the wellbeing of the children at this important – and very chocolatey – time of the year.”
