Five new cases of Coronavirus identified in NI - 12 since testing began

The Department of Health last night confirmed ‘five new presumptive positive results for coronavirus (Covid-19) have been recorded in Northern Ireland, bringing the total to 12 since testing began’.

Their statement said contact tracing from these five cases is being conducted by Public Health Agency staff.

‘A more detailed update will be provided on the situation (today) when this contact tracing work is at a more advanced stage.

Also yesterday two more cases were confirmed in the Republic of Ireland, bringing the total number there to 21.

One of the patients has an underlying condition and is seriously ill.

Health officials said both cases were community transmissions and did not involve people who had returned recently from at-risk areas.

On Saturday three cases were confirmed in Northern Ireland.

Saturday’s cases were adults who had recently travelled from Italy, which is at the centre of the European outbreak, and were linked to a previous case.
