NI records huge 424 spike in new COVID-19 infections - one additional death recorded in last 24 hours

The total number of infections in a 24 hour period increased from 320 on Tuesday to 424 on Wednesday.

A total of 11,693 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic however 1,950 of these cases were recorded in the last seven days.

One additional COVID-19 related death was recorded in the last 24 hours but the death occurred outside of this time frame.

The deceased was a man aged 80 or over in the Belfast City Council area.

The death-toll according to the Department of Health now stands 579.

There are currently 67 patients in 20 different hospitals in Northern Ireland receiving treatment for COVID-19.

An additional eight people with COVID-19 were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours - latest stats reveal 16 people have been hospitalised in the last 48 hours.
