It includes three special Santa post boxes for children to send their letters to the North Pole, and attractions, including a gingerbread house and fairy houses, along the way.

Belfast One, which has invested almost £4 million in projects to enhance, support and promote the city centre over the last five years, wants to make sure that families don’t miss out on magical experiences this year.

There’s also the chance of winning a prize.

Visitors who take on the challenge of spotting 10 colourful gingerbread house-themed Christmas props, including candy canes and gingerbread characters, in the windows of city centre businesses, will be in with the chance of winning a £250 Belfast City Centre gift card.

Kathleen McBride, managing director of Belfast One, said: “We know that many of the usual family Christmas experiences have been cancelled this year due to the pandemic but we wanted to make sure children and adults of all ages still get to experience some Christmas fun and magic in a safe way.

“Our trail has been designed with social distancing in mind and we hope that families enjoy strolling around the festive streets, spotting our specially themed characters in the windows of our businesses and stopping off to enjoy a hot drink, snack or meal now that our hospitality businesses have re-opened.”

“We encourage people to follow public health advice and to be sure to regularly sanitise their hands and wear masks in enclosed areas to keep themselves and others safe.”

The trail runs Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm with the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day. For more information and to download the trail map go to www.belfastone.co.uk/christmastrail
