Coleraine French student Maddison is in a class of her own

A Coleraine College language student hasn’t allowed lockdown to stop her achieving an incredible feat in French!

Year 9 student Maddison Mitchell, along with her classmates, was set a task by Head of French Mme Skobel and French remote learning co-ordinator Ms Black using an online tool called The Language Nut.

Working against students from all around the world, within one week, Maddison reached the top 5 spot out of 100,000 other pupils.

Coleraine College said: “On Monday morning, the French Department introduced our students to The Language Nut, a remote learning tool, and by Friday Madison was in the Top 0.01% globally with the support and encouragement from her friends, and teachers. We are very proud of her effort, her success and her ability to make a plan, and make it happen.”

Maddison said: “Language Nut is an amazing online website where you can learn all different types of languages. I’m happy that my teacher introduced Language Nut as it has improved my French so much in only a week!

“I decided to try the website which I’m glad I did. There are approximately 100,000 students on the website so I gave myself a target to aim for top 10. I spent hours and hours doing tests because I was determined to reach top 10. The best part of it is that you can learn French but in a fun way.

“This website has taught me how to spell and speak in French. I’m still improving each day. I have had loads of support from my friends, family and staff at school.”
