Is privacy slowing becoming a thing of the past when it comes to toileting?

Did women of my generation ever imagine there would come a time when we would have to share public toilets with the opposite sex?

In fact would the women of the generation which came after us realise that they too would not just be facing this subject of gender neutral lavatories but would be expected to use them since there may not be any other option on offer?

My thoughts turn to women like my mother, mother-in-law, aunts of which there were many and 2neighbours – all lovely people from a generation which was dignified, proud and who valued

privacy. What would they be thinking of the ultimate invasion of women’s privacy which has been forced upon us by a generation many of whom appear not to know whether they are male or female and who the government appears to imagine should be catered for in the name of equality.

Our most famous female author JK Rowling says `girls’ safety is being put at risk for the sake of trans ideology. The abuse she has suffered for her views on the subject is disgraceful.

Recently she said: `Girls’ safety, privacy and dignity are being sacrificed to an incoherent ideology pushed by lobby groups, which give predatory males easy access to victims’.

We have got to the ridiculous point where the government is working on `setting out clearly what the difference should be in these toilets’ according to one article I read on the subject. Activists of the policy are loudly banging their drums to ensure their viewpoint is heard despite the uproar from women all over the country.

I suppose the outraged like me will be told to shut up and observe 21st century values. Trouble is there have been many reports of where police have had to be called to toilets where women have been put at risk simply because they’ve had to answer the call of nature.

Some believe the government has taken on board the howls of many who are opposing same sex toilets but I’m not convincedSome believe the government has taken on board the howls of many who are opposing same sex toilets but I’m not convinced

Who is responsible for putting them at risk as clearly many have been? Is it the government which is all over the place on the subject, no doubt worrying about the next election? Is it the individuals – would be politicians - who think that supporting this particular transgender issue is popular, a vote winner which the young will support, ignoring the fact that a sizeable portion of young voters would sell their granny if they thought it would make them popular.

Some believe the government has taken on board the howls of many who are opposing same sex toilets but I’m not convinced women have done enough howling to ensure that they don’t get to a favourite venue some day and find males in the toilet queue because the government had changed its mind and sneaked in plans hoping no-one would notice.

Kemi Badenoch who is Business and Trade Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities in the government declares that `gender-neutral lavatories are an invasion of women’s privacy’ only to further declare that the government is publishing draft guidance `that will protect the dignity, privacy and safety of all.’

I find that confusing and I’m therefore not convinced that we won’t at some time in the near future find that the government’s plans on the issue weren’t quite what we expected.

The confusing thing about this Tory government is that it never appears to know when to stop spending money. Labour too was never much better when in power. Public sector pensions currently are said to be costing the country £2.3 trillion, with the potential to climb to 2.5 billion now that the government has agreed pay rises way beyond what the country can afford. Bankruptcy? Don’t rule it out.
