Eight-year-old Harry Grocott has spent December doing a ‘Twelve Runs of Christmas’ challenge during which he aimed to run twelve 5ks to raise funds for local community group Reach.

The Mill Strand pupil began his challenge on December 1 and hopes to complete it by today (Christmas Eve).

His initial target of raising £250 has already been smashed and, at the time of writing, was sitting at a whopping £899!

Harry’s mum Sarah said: “Harry’s great granda is 97 and lives in England. Due to Covid-19 we haven’t been able to see him at all this year. Harry wanted to do something to help people like his great granda who are living in accommodation but their usual amenities and community aren’t available to them due to Covid causing them to close.

We explained about how some of the elderly and vulunerable members of our community are lonely and struggling at this time and Harry wanted to do something to help them.”

Portrush community group REACH will be delivering Christmas meals on Christmas Day to members of the community who may not be able to prepare a meal for themselves or have no one to call upon for support, so, Harry decided he would raise money for REACH.
