It’s time to ‘Discover Portrush’!

Portrush Heritage Group has received a grant of £10,000 from the Community Heritage Fund for a local heritage project to re-connect the community through a programme of heritage and culture called “Discover Portrush”.

“Discover Portrush” brings together contributions from Portrush Heritage Group, Portrush Writers Group and Swell Festival, which has links with North Coast World Earth, Portrush Arts Collective and North Coast Trad. The event will encourage people to engage with the shared cultural and natural heritage of Portrush.

In the run-up to Easter the grant will facilitate:

* The launch of a Young Explorer Portrush or YEP! project

* Hosting of a heritage exhibition in the ‘White House’ windows

* A virtual exhibition of local art works from Portrush Collective, inspired by our natural and cultural heritage

* A community artwork curated by Frankie Creith, documenting local experiences of the pandemic

* A Beach Art installation by North Coast World Earth and support for the Eco Rangers campaign

* Special editions of Discover Portrush Magazine, including new pieces from the Portrush Writers Group illustrated by Alice Rohdich

* An online concert from North Coast Trad showcasing our best local musical talent and celebrating our musical heritage

* Unusual stories in familiar places by Paul Hutchinson

All events will also be available on-line through social media platforms.

Commenting on the award John McNally, Chairman of the Portrush Heritage Group, said: “We’re grateful to the Department for Communities and The National Lottery Heritage Fund for providing this funding. Thanks to this grant, we can reach out to new audiences in our community and help them to better understand the heritage on our doorstep.

“Swell is a movement inspired by the creativity and innovation alive in our community in Portrush and we look forward to working with Swell in the delivery of this programme of Arts, Culture and Heritage.”
