Kerry Kane is one of 40 hopeful amateur cooks to have made it through to compete over four weeks of heats, but this year they will have to cook not only for their place in the competition but also the right to wear a coveted MasterChef apron.

With five contestants in each heat and only four aprons up for grabs, competition is fierce.

During lockdown the country has been trying out new recipes and cooking at home more than ever before. Against this background, the country’s premier cooking

competition, MasterChef returns to BBC One on March 1.

Judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace put 40 of the UK’s most passionate and talented amateur cooks through their paces in the ultimate test of their culinary prowess as they search for one exceptional cook worthy of being crowned MasterChef Champion 2021.

The hopefuls will get their first chance to win an apron by cooking their Signature Dish – something that tells John and Gregg about who they are as a cook and how good they can become. After tasting all five plates, John and Gregg pick their two favourite dishes and those cooks will earn themselves not only a MasterChef apron but also a place in the next round.

Kerry will appear later in the series in March.
