Paul takes on ‘giant’ Sperrin charity hike challenge

A keen walker from Tobermore had been planning to hike at the Giant’s Causeway last month for charity but was forced to rethink his plans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Instead Paul Kelly opted to walk ‘in his back yard’ and mapped out a 26-mile course in the Sperrin mountains.

Paul, who raised over £600 for Macmillan, had been looking forward to completing a ‘Mighty Hike’ marathon on the beautiful north coast.

As someone who enjoys hill walking, the local man was very much at home when he set off on the challenge in the stunning surrounds of the Sperrins on June 27 taking in some beautiful locations like Barnes Gap.

Tracking his walk using the Strava app, his final distance was actually closer to 28 miles and took him just over 10 hours.

Paul’s JustGiving page has now passed the £600 mark, and with lots of donations coming in offline too.
