Presentation marks 50th anniversary of the UDR forming

Alderman Mark Fielding met with members of the UDR Association’s Coleraine branch in the Diamond of the town for the socially distanced event.
The Mayor presented a framed Coat of Arms to the branch and received an engraved blackthorn stick and a copy of Dr Stephen Herron’s book ‘A Lifetime Looking Over Your Shoulder - The Experiences of the Ulster Defence Regiment’ to mark the occasion. The Mayor and his wife Phyllis carried out the presentations, held in the Diamond, Coleraine, along with Ian Davidson and Alan Campbell, Adrian Nicholl, Kenny Hutchinson, Danny Sheppard and Jack Reid during the event.
In 1992, the UDR was amalgamated with the Royal Irish Rangers to form the Royal Irish Regiment.
