Dale Farm favourites like Pear Picking Porky, Polly Pineapple, Mr Frosty, Joker and Choc Pops are still around and for many will conjure up carefree childhood summers spent riding our Chopper bikes or homemade go-carts.

Other firm favourites included Funny Feet, a self-consciously wacky dollop of moulded strawberry ice cream shaped like a foot – with a very large big toe.

Screwballs, a conical raspberry ripple ice cream with a tooth-cracking bubblegum at the bottom, which we tried to sneak past our parents who issued grim warnings about gum sticking to our insides.

There was Feast, a chocoholics dream and one you can still buy in the shops. Brunch, Twister, and Orange Maid, the ‘drink on a stick’. Nobbly Bobbly lollies, every inch covered in hundreds and thousands (bobblies?) clearly stood the test of time as they are still around. And Loop the Loop, a lemon and lime flavour lolly partly dipped in a chocolate flavour coating.

But what ever happened to Chilly Willy’s, Wibbly Wobbly Wonders,J iggly Pops, Fat Frogs, Cola Quechers? Frozen out by the newcomers, perhaps.
