Appeal to help send Polish road victim's body home

Nineteen-year-old Krystian Cadler, who lived in Kilrea, died following a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry on the Agivey Road, Aghadowey.

His brother Gregor Cadler has started a crowdfunding page to raise funds to return Krystian’s remains to Poland.

There had been “a tragic accident” Gregor said on the webpage. While returning from the North West 200, one of the motorcycles driving in a “column of motorcycles” collided with a van. “As a result of injury, my brother was killed on the spot [and his] colleague – in serious condition – was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Belfast.”

He witnessed the entire incident as he was riding at the back of the column, he said. The funeral and associated costs are “not realistic for my pocket” he added, appealing for help. The page has raised £885 so far with a target of £2,000.

DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan said he lives only a mile from the accident spot.

“It is so sad, he was only 19 with a wee child, over here trying to make a living and ends up being killed,” he said. “And he is also leaving behind a young girl with a child. My thoughts and prayers go out to them. It is a very sad day.

“People are contacting me last night to see if they were collecting money. It has touched people.”

He said Krystian had been a pillion passenger and that the rider is still seriously ill in hospital. He also expressed concern for the impact of events on the lorry driver.

The MLA added that it was terrible that racer Malachy Mitchell-Thomas died at the NW200 on the same day.
