Arrest after £520,000 herbal cannabis seized on M2 motorway

A 39-year-old man has been arrested by Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch after £520,000 of herbal cannabis was seized in a proactive operation last night.

Police stopped a vehicle travelling City bound on the M2 shortly before 10.45pm and following a search of the vehicle a large amount of herbal cannabis was seized.

A PSNI spokesman said a 39-year-old man is being questioned at Musgrave Police Station on suspicion of possession of Class B controlled drug and possessing a class B controlled drug with intent to supply.

Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: “This seizure highlights our continued determination to tackle the scourge of illegal drugs in the local community and I would appeal to anyone who has concerns about illegal drugs to contact police. We will look into any report that we receive as we work with the community to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any concerns or information about illegal drugs to contact their local Police on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
