Attempted murder charge after north Belfast shooting

A man has been charged with attempted murder following a paramilitary style shooting in north Belfast on Monday.

The 51-year-old has also been charged with carrying a firearm with intent and is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Saturday morning (May 14)

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Reid said: “The 51-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 12 May following a paramilitary style shooting in north Belfast on Monday, 9 May where a man aged in his 20s sustained a number of gunshot wounds.

“The attack took place in an alleyway between Sheridan Street and Donore Court in the early hours of the morning.”

DCI Reid added: “A 46-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, 11 May in connection with this investigation but was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.”
