Ballymena Councillor '˜in the pink' after becoming grandmother to triplets

Ballymena Councillor Beth Adger is '˜in the pink' after becoming the grandmother of triplets Remy Kathryn, Freya Lucille and Brynn Sarah.

The girls were born to Councillor Adger and her husband Tommy’s eldest son Gordon and his wife Natasha at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, on January 18, weighing in at 4lb 2oz, 4lb 2oz and 3lb 11oz.

Cllr Adger revealed that her new granddaughters’ second names were given after those of their greatgrandmothers on both sides of Gordon and Natasha’s families.

“They are all home and doing well,” Cllr Adger told the Ballymena Times, adding: “I’m tickled pink and very proud”.

The most recent statistics in 2004 show that twins. triplets and quads represented 14.87 of every 1.000 births or 1 in 67 pregnancies was a multiple birth.

Councillor Adger, however, revealed that multiple births run in the family - triplets having been born on her side and twins on her husband’s side.

Mrs Adger, who was awarded a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s 2015 New Year Honours list for ‘Services to Local Government and to young people in Northern Ireland’ has exceptional experience of dealing with and providing care for a large family.

The mother of seven sons and two daughters, and already a grandmother of 16 children, she was also foster mum to 47 children over a period of 22 years, winning the title ‘Mid-Antrim Woman of the Year’ during that time for her outstanding commitment to fostering.
