Ballysillan lodge to suspend Twaddell protest

Members of Ballysillan LOL 1981 march on a nightly basis and every Saturday in protest at the impasse over the July 12 return parade past Ardoyne shops.

In a statement, the lodge made reference to the failed talks process in the build-up to this year’s parade.

The lodge said the talks “took place without our knowledge or participation” and that it had been left “in a very difficult situation”.

A spokesman added: “In the absence of honesty and good faith by others we are left with no option but to suspend our protest.”

The lodge however, says it has not given up hope of the return parade one being completed.

The lodge’s decision does not affect the long-running community protest camp at Twaddell Avenue.
