Belfast City Marathon will bring charity boost along with traffic disruption

The events starts at 9am at City Hall and finishes in Ormeau Park. Organiseers say motorists can expect some disruption throughout the morning and early afternoon, although every attempt will be made to ensure that this is kept to a minimum.

Around 150,500 runners are expected to take part, raising thousands for charity in the process.

Among the runners are the family of 23-year-old Belfast man Joe Burns who died suddenly in July 2014

The barman was a fit and healthy boxer who trained regularly. The day after his tragic death his girlfriend Sinead discovered she was pregnant with their daughter Bella who is now two.

Ten members of the family and their friends are running the Belfast Marathon on Monday to raise funds for British Heart Foundation and their research into inherited heart conditions.
