Belfast man facing trial on historic sex crime charges

A Belfast man has appeared in court accused of committing a series of sex crimes in the city 20 years ago.

Gary Thomas Wallace is charged with indecent assaults on two females and indecently exposing himself to both of them.

The 47-year-old, of Glenbryn Park in Belfast, also faces allegations of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency and two further attempted indecent assaults.

He was ordered to stand trial on a total of 11 charges relating to dates in 1995 to 1996.

Wallace entered the dock at the city’s magistrates’ court for the first time to establish if he has a case to answer.

He nodded to confirm he understood the alleged offences but declined to give evidence or call witnesses at this stage in the case.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall granted a prosecution application to have him returned for trial on the charges – which relate to two different alleged victims.

Wallace was released on continuing bail until that hearing gets under way at Belfast Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
